Summer ended now
My shorts and flip-flops weeping
Sealed in dark winter
Uncle Peter passed
I sent him 'When you are old'
Now he's with the stars
We drove to Broadchurch
Hoping to find Ammonites
But not Kate Winslet
Wind howls and leaves fall
I miss the old bonfire smoke
Stronger than Woodbines
A branch fell in Close
Hitting a lady on head
Harshish act of God

Get me out of Dodge
I feel like Hank Williams now
with no love-sick blues
Gas-lighted to distraction
and no kennel to lie in
T bonds are drowning
Elites grazing at Versailles
Oil soars to new highs
the poor can no longer drive
just limp over the border
When I die what's left
I think the world ends with me
Why should it survive
If I think therefore I am
all is just an illusion

2023 now
The year my warranty died
I can be spare parts
When I like someone
my lips turn to soft jelly
I talk gibberish
Sainsburys Badger Farm
To Johnny its wonderland
Full of new spices
My plumbing not good
I'm like old Huey P Long
When the levee breaks
Old man with stroller
Dragging his work-worn sore hip
He never complains
I reminded her of someone
Apparently he's a nice guy
I don't expect he's a rockstar
He might well be a failure
I could be his doppelganger then;
She reminds me of no-one
Except the joy of blissful youth
Summers in fields of wild buttercups.
It lights a dry tinder spark
On the beaten track to oblivion.

A rotted stile creaked sadly with my weight
A Death Cap stood proud in the dark wood
I hurried through ferns, seeking the safe road's side
My hips ached when stooping for hazelnuts
Sweetcorn hid pheasants from the Red Kites' eyes
Crossed to Upperton gazing up to the Downs
Through a thicket, a dark pool fringed with horsetail
Down a derelict oxdrove shrouded by roots
Up a steep hillside to the bare empty trail

Better to die than kill
Whichever side you are on
Karma will get you
The first frost today
Crisp light and early shadows
Filled with cold beauty
Massaman curry
Once exotic with Thai spice
Fails to excite me
Caff closed at Ropley
We eat pastries by the track
Steam but no hot tea
Rupert says hello
Medication keeps us sane
But not completely

The dog is barking
The owner went into shop
Tail wags, eyes look scared
Bread and butter pud
All the things I should avoid
Bring comfort and joy
Dog shit on my shoe
The villain is XL Bully
It not only bites
Little boy on trike
Cares not for sweet bubble tea
Only for carnage
So she is gone now
We cant compete with chic BAth
Come back aged 60

Try to buy camp mug
Must have one with spill-proof lid
Drips on stairs I'm dead
Sun shines then rain pours
Sumo wrestling in the sky
Apollo fights Zeus
Glenda and Michael
Watch the sunrise at Hastings
Before the sun sets
Burger King thrills
more than popcorn and the film
Beef Whopper slays schmaltz
Ready for the rain
Zeus won't catch me out this time

I knitted a hat
My Neighbour Totoro style
After accident
We cleared Johnny’s room
Cobwebs spun thick on cobwebs
Sorry poor spiders
Xmas market now
Same old crap as last year
But lovely sweet smells
Vivaldi A Moll
Concerto for 2 violins
Played at the clappers
Winter duvet time
Soon I’ll be making stollen

Quick to disembowel poodles
Cries outside Iceland
I bought Xmas crap
Eager to please ungrateful
Nephews and nieces
Black Bomber cheeses
On sale in xmas market
Surely cost a bomb
Bollocked for smoking
The bad vibe around my house
Thicker than Woodbines
I love Chinese shop
Just the labels from Asia

December the first
The start of Holy Advent
But no cause for hope
In Projects Cafe
Too cold to sit outside
Warmth beats nicotine
60’s music plays
‘Stop, hear, What’s that sound?’ I hear
The sound of failed dreams
Tomorrow she leaves
Six weeks of peace and freedom
To smoke in the bath
I so want a cat
The ugliest one in town
Can be friend for life

What to buy my friend?
Paprika and Epsom Salts
For a spicy bath
The High Street is crushed
I hide away with a Flat White
From madness of crowds
My luck is safe now
The waving cat will bring charms,
Fortune from Penang
Dark by four p.m.
Baltic winds from Russia blow
Feel like Zhivago
Bought a leg of lamb
Last time I had such a haunch
Sunday, College Street

I made fresh chai tea
But like a complete fool I
forgot the ginger
I’m like King Lear
Filial ingratitude
The story of my life
Sunbeams fall on town
Seem to spread calm cold silence
Kiss before the dark
Hoover ate my lights
Now my tree is dark and sad
Baubles fall like tears
My stollen got hard
The crumbs on my kitchen floor
Will last till Easter
The Eclipse
Ten years ago I was drunk here
Ranting with Jim and Austin over beer
Solving crosswords and the world’s issues
Talking history with Mick, and the local news
Now benches became metal frames
There’s music blaring from the Square
The cathedral’s lit like a Turkish brothel
Hat Fair street artists, festive despair
